2024, marked a significant milestone for electric mobility in Angola as TotalEnergies Marketing Angola and BOB ECO inaugurated the country’s first battery charging point for electric scooters at the TotalEnergies supply station in Miramar, Luanda. This development is a key step toward promoting sustainable transport solutions and expanding mobility options throughout the country.
BOB ECO, provide oelectric motorcycles for the motorcycle taxi service, is now operating in Angola with its Bob Model X motorcycles through the Kubinga app. This innovative service has already seen success in other African nations and has now been introduced in Luanda with 150 electric motorcycles in operation. These electric motorcycles are designed to promote self-employment and provide a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional motorcycle taxis.
The motorcycles are available through a lease-to-own program, making it easier for young people to finance their vehicles. The removable batteries can be charged in just two hours with a portable charger, offering a practical and efficient solution for riders. Charging infrastructure is crucial to this expansion, and the newly opened charging station in Miramar is the first of many planned to support this growing network of electric vehicles.
Supporting Environmental Sustainability
TotalEnergies Marketing Angola has committed to installing three new charging stations each year at supply stations throughout the country. This initiative will help reduce Angola’s carbon footprint and support efforts to combat climate change. The opening of this first charging point was witnessed by key industry figures, including Claire Dutertre, General Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Angola, António Quilanda, Director for BOB ECO’s Commercial Area, and Emerson Paím, CEO of Kubinga.
This collaboration between TotalEnergies, BOB ECO, and Kubinga represents a forward-thinking approach to tackling both environmental and economic challenges in Angola. By providing affordable, sustainable transportation options, this initiative is not only reducing emissions but also creating new economic opportunities through job creation in Angola’s growing electric mobility sector.
Expanding Mobility Across Angola
As electric motorcycles continue to expand across Luanda, plans are already in place to bring this project to other regions. The goal is to extend the electric motorcycle lease-to-own program and charging infrastructure throughout the country, making sustainable transport solutions accessible to more communities.
This project is part of broader efforts to improve mobility in emerging markets like Angola while focusing on innovation in African transport. The collaboration also highlights the importance of partnerships in driving forward sustainable growth initiatives that benefit both the environment and local economies.
With new charging stations on the horizon and further expansion planned, the future of electric mobility in Angola looks bright.
